The Westie Club of the South is dedicated to the West Highland White Terriers
of Georgia and surrounding areas and to helping "prospective" Westie owners make the most informed decision possible
as to whether the Westie is the right breed for them. If you are considering owning a Westie, we recommend that you take the
Westie Profiler and read the Acquiring a West Highland White Terrier section and the Westie FAQ page to help you understand the true nature of the Westie. When dogs such as Bob, Sophie
Rose and Sugar Plum are rescued, they are first given a complete medical examination, and their physical needs are met. Then
they are placed in foster homes until a suitable adoption situation develops. During the past year, in addition to Sugar Plum,
Maggie (nee Holly), Wyatt, and Jack were fostered by Bob, Sophie Rose, Sugar Plum and their parents. They have been placed
successfully inver loving homes. Please meet them:

Maggie (Rescue name: Holly)
Maggie
Holly came at the same time as Sugar Plum and they were given Christmas names (assuming the adoptive parents would change
them). Holly's new parents chose to call her Maggie. She is a sweet and endearing little lady whose new Dad dotes on her.
During the adoption interview she lay on her new Mom's feet and went to sleep. Obviously a sign. When she left, Maggie was
looking out of the car back at us as if to say, "Wait a minute, what's this all about." We miss her, but thankfully hear from
her and get pictures.

Wyatt
Wyatt
Wyatt was surrendered by his family. Surrender is not an unusual decision and is made for a variety of reasons. In this
particular instance, the family surveyed their options and, after learning their local shelter was a kill shelter, contacted
the national Westie organization where they were referred to the Westie Club of the South. The same process is followed for
surrenders as for rescues: medical examination and placement in a foster home. Wyatt had been purchased from a breeder, but
rescued dogs are spayed and neutered and papers, if provided, are not passed on to the new family. Wyatt lives near the coast
of Georgia now and we also hear from him. His parents absolutely adore him and have lots of time at home with him. Hopefully,
he can come for a visit.

Jack
Jumping Jack Flash
Jack's history is totally unknown, only that he was skinny and hungry and needed a lot of loving. He became Jumping Jack
because this boy jumps. A Westie's favorite passtime is chasing small animals. Our Westies have a hay day with squirrels who
taunt the dogs. Bob and Sophie and Sugar will follow the squirrels movements through the trees and stare and bark. This
wasn't enough for Jack. He climbed the trees. Well he climbed the trees as well as any Westie could. He didn't seem to know
that, as an earth dog, he was supposed to dig. There a number of maples in the backyard now with Jack's claw marks more
than a yard up the trunk from his attempts to climb. He did get off the ground in a crepe myrtle. Jack also has doting
parents who live north of Atlanta and he returns for sleepovers. He, too, did the long look back at us when he left, but we
promised he could come back which he has done.
Rescues, Surrenders and Adoptions 2008
With Maggie, Sugar Plum, Lucy, Davis, Maisie, Fyffer, Murphy, Wyatt, and Jack, it's been a busy time here at Westie Hill
(as the neighbors have dubbed it). But it's fun. For more information on Westie surrender, rescue, adoption, or fostering
