Lucy and Abbey waiting for Spring
March 2, 2009

Since tomorrow 3/3, we'll have Lucy 1 year, here are some recent pictures. When she is with Abbey, you can always tell Lucy- she's the shaggy looking one. She's doing great- spunky as ever.

Lucy, Abbey and Victoria -- Lucy at 1 -- Lucy in Trouble
January 10, 2009

Lucy is doing really well. She is a handful and is as playful as the day we got her. As a baby pup, I remember she had the reputation as being the alpha of the litter. She is still like that. She loves being the center of attention and she's extremely affectionate and friendly. I can tell you that our house is never boring with Lucy here. She loves the outdoors and is 100% terrier. The more dirty and muddy she gets outside, the happier she is. She and Abbey, our other Westie, are extremely close. That's why they are usually in pictures together. They both have their "spot" on the back of the couch. Take care and we'll continue to let you know how Lucy is.

That’s Lucy on the left, daughter Victoria and Abbey on the right. One of the rare times Lucy is sitting still.

Lucy's First Haircut
June 2, 2008

We had to get Lucy's haircut really short because her hair was growing in very wavy and curly. She's not real receptive to getting brushed and parts of her were getting pretty matted. The groomer thought it best to cut it real short for now. We'll see how it comes in. Her hair is soft and fluffy, not the coarse hair like a Westie. Her face definitely has the Westie look. Except for a few accidents, we think she is finally housebroken. She was a tough one. She's doing well.

Here are some new pictures of Lucy. Her paws are slightly green because as I was mowing the grass that was a little damp, she was following behind me barking and getting all excited over the lawn mower. Abbey had just come from the groomer so she is clean and white. Lucy has earned the nickname "Tornado". She lives up to that name everyday. She's doing great and we love her.

Lucy on her spot and with her favortie Christmas toy

April 12, 2008

Hi,

Lucy is changing everyday- growing really fast. She can really wear you out. She loves the outside chasing birds from our feeders and since our house backs up to a field and woods, she has seen her first deer, rabbits, squirrels and our neighbors cat which really got her going. She is really mischievous but in a typical puppy way. She has taken and hidden things like our phone and TV remote. So we've learned not to leave anything on the couch because she will jump up and take it. She's loves to lick you and is really affectionate with Abbey, when they aren't chasing each other. She hates being crated but does good with it at night. We thought we'd be farther along with housebreaking her, but not yet. One of her favorite things is running around with a toy Santa Claus in her mouth (it's by her tail in the picture). She takes it outside too. She has an extremely healthy appetite and just went to the vet again and is in great shape. A few weeks ago we gave her a bath which she seemed to like. She's a great puppy. Take care.

I've taken a lot of pictures of Lucy since we got her. Nothing new to really say but these are good so I wanted to send them. Thank you.

Lucy and Abbey -- March 2008

March 23, 2008

Here is the latest picture of Lucy, taken on Easter Sunday- 3 weeks after we got her. She's doing great. A total bundle of energy. She had her 1st visit to the vet 2 weeks ago and is in great health but is getting a follow up for roundworm. She and Abbey play non stop and Lucy loves to hide under some large bushes in our backyard and jump out at Abbey when she comes by. They also like to play tug of war with the rope you see in the picture. Abbey is definitely the "pack leader" but Lucy can be very bold. We just started taking her out on a leash which she didn't like at first but now gets excited and is doing better. She no longer fits in the carrier Chrissie gave us but really likes riding in the car. More to follow.

Sorry for not updating you on Lucy's travels sooner!

Chrissie got home with Lucy on Saturday, after a quite vocal ride home from Sugar Plum's. Lucy is not crazy about cars! Once home, we put her in a very comfortable and plush X-Pen with lots of puppy luxuries. Lucy loved this so much she pooped, then she pooped some more, then she peed, then she peed some more! Chrissie was alone with Lucy as I had to leave until later that evening, and from what I gather she had her hands full, literally. Lucy had several necessary sponge baths and her bedding and toys had to be washed several times. Lucy wanted to be held often and cried until she was picked up, sleeping only on Chrissie's chest, as this must have reminded her of lying next to her brothers, sisters and her mum. When I got home, I took over for a while, but Chrissie took most of the shifts. We were probably supposed to let her cry, but we just couldn't, she had had such a traumatic day, we just felt bad for her. She was curious with McCartney and Daisy, who just calmly sniffed her, and one time we think she started to mistake Daisy for Sugar Plum...if you know what we mean!!! Luckily Daisy was in a deep sleep and missed the whole thing! :>}

The morning came and Chrissie awoke refreshed after nearly 2 hours of sleep. We fed her early to give her time to eliminate, and played with her to try to wear her out, which back-fired as she wore us out instead (she has endless energy). We got her ready for the flight and took along MANY supplies for what we figured would be a nightmare at the airports and on the plane. As soon as we put her in the special flight bag that we had purchased for her, she relaxed. Strangely enough, she was a perfect little angel all the way through the airport. We were met with many oohs and aahs as we carried her through the scanning device, but once again, not a peep from Lucy. We were able to get the entire back row on the plane, figuring this would be good for the many expected trips to the bathroom. Lucy loved the flight, she was lulled by the engines and slept for most of the time. Lucy likes planes! During the take off, flight and landing, she did not make a peep, just continued to be incredibly cute and catch the eyes of many a flight attendant (this is one very cute puppy!). Not until we got in Greg's car, did she decide to once again speak (as I said, Lucy does not like cars).

Lucy was very curious with Abbey, her new Sister, but they definitely took to each other; they are going to be great play pals!

Lucy is doing great, as you can see in this photo from Greg, and we know she is getting plenty of love from her new family. Our hats go off for George and Jeannie, as we cannot imagine the work that was involved with bringing up the five prunes! I am sure that the love they received from these grateful little Westies and their mum was worth it, but nonetheless WELL DONE! The gift bag that came with each puppy was amazing, especially the book that was prepared for the new families, we cannot thank them enough.

Thanks to all that made this adoption possible.

FYI - If anyone needs to travel onboard an aircraft with a puppy, here is the deal that we experienced:

Call ahead to make sure there is room as only 1-3 dogs are allowed onboard in cabin space per flight and the space is first come first served.
Delta charges $75 (used to be $50) to travel with a dog in cabin or cargo hold.
Health certificate was NOT needed (Delta), although there ARE such needs for CARGO animals that are not in the cabin. (Recommend to always check on this, as different airlines and different destinations have their own state guidelines and regulations. If in doubt, get a health certificate from your vet for peace of mind).
Pet must be over 8 weeks (we made it by a day!)
Carrier must conform to regulation guidelines (varies - check with airline) average cost at Petsmart $35.

Hope this helps.

We [the new parents] just wanted to let you know that Lucy is doing fine. She's a great puppy and in less than 24 hrs, she and our 2 1/2 year old Westie (Abbey) have really bonded. I took this picture as they were both laying on the back of our couch.
