Sugar Plum is a West Highland White Terrier rescued as a stray by
the Westie Club of the South. She was in deplorable condition: hungry, filthy, and in need of much loving.
Sugar Plum has a sweet, but cautious, personality and a charming Westie face. The puppies were a total surprise.
The vet believed she was spayed. Even though she had a large belly, there were no lumps and there was no movement until Saturday
night, January 5th, when she gave birth to seven puppies: six live and one stillborn. One of the live puppies was two-thirds
the size of the others and did not feed well. Despite bottle feeding, she only survived three days. The remaining five Prunes
are healthy and growing. Sugar Plum is also putting on weight with her greatly improved diet and is becoming one beautiful
Westie girl.
Sugar Plum is now spayed and adopted by the foster parents. She is becoming more socialized and an
integral part of the pack of three: Bob, Sophie Rose, and Sugar Plum.
Westie Rescue
As with any rescues Sugar Plum was immediately evaluated and treated by a veterinarian. Though bathed
twice, she remained rather fragrant. Once medical treatment was completed, she was placed in a foster home to await
adoption.
